John Gould
John Gould is a well respected and knowledgeable historian who was born in Dawson ninety years ago. He has an immense knowledge of Klondike history at his fingertips. Having lived here all his life he continues to reveal more and more fascinating facts about Dawson’s past.
John has compiled a collection of interesting newspaper articles from Dawson’s early days called Dawson City a History of Growing Pains 1896 – 1906.
These selections paint an interesting picture of those early years providing a valuable insight into what life was like here right after the great Gold Rush.
Publishing on this site is volunteer based, we will add more fascinating content as time permits. Please consider joining our mailing list on the top left of the page to me notified of any updates.

Thanks and will start adding more very soon.
Great historical review, John Gould. I’ll head North in May to capitalize on the price of gold. Hello to Madeleine.

Mr. Gould,
Would you have any information for me about my aunt? I am 85 years old. My aunt’s name was Dorothy M. Pine. She married Frank C. Ballantine in January of 1898 and he divorced her in 1899. Dorothy was trained as a dancer and singer. She reportedly traveled from Seattle, WA to Dawson City in 1899. Would you please let me know if you have any photos or information about Dorothy? I am performing research on her, because so little is known about her. It’s as thought she disappeared. Thank you, Carol.
